May Tourney 2008 Event Descriptions
|
| |
| Bear-pit Tourneys -- Contestants will fight in a
10’ X 10’ square. Stepping out of the square will eliminate a
combatant from that fight. Double kills will eliminate both combatants.
Fighters not eliminated in a round will stay in the pit to fight again.
Wounds are not retained. This will be a timed tourney. Each time a
combatant fights in the square he or she will be awarded a point. The
combatant with the most points at the end of the time will win the
tourney. |
| |
| Tourney of the May Faire -- This is a standard double
elimination tourney. The tourney will be open weapon style. |
| |
| Iron Warrior Tourney -- This contest was taken from
the Shire of Arenal with their permission. (Thank you neighbors to the FAR
south.) It is slightly modified from their contest. In order to compete in
this contest a combatant must compete in both the rapier and heavy combat
tourneys, as well as shoot a royal round on the archery range. In both
Tourneys of the May Faire, contestants will get one point for each fight
that they win. They will receive 10 points if they win the tourney or 7
points if they come in second. In the archery portion each contestant will
get one point for each full 10 points that they score on the archery
range. Contestants may earn up to 10 points for winning the archery
contest and 7 points for coming in second. Contestants will shoot an IKAC
royal round. The contestant with the highest combined score, after
competing in all three competitions, will be named the Iron Warrior. |
| |
| Target Archery Competition -- The field will be set
up for competitors to shoot royal rounds under the IKAC guidelines.
Highest score wins. In the case of a tie, a timed shoot will determine the
winner. |
| |
| Dance Class -- This class will be a European class
Dance taught by Lady Arwen and Lord Runolfr Ulfsson. |
| |
| Pavillion Competition -- The pavilion and setting
that most demonstrates the ideals and vision of pageantry will be declared
the winner. |

Benefit Tourney -- The tourney in the words of its
coordinator.
As the SCA has grown, it has adopted more of a philanthropic ideology.
While more established gentles helping out new members is one of the
guiding principles of our hobby, in more recent years a great amount of
time and effort has also been dedicated to helping charitable
organizations outside of the society. For the past several years the
Order of the Chalice, spear-headed by Countess Ellawin and Earl Richard
Rae Fen, has been hosting fundraisers in support of various battered
women’s shelters across the southeast.
Inspired by this, I been granted by Her Excellency Baroness Godelind
of Windemire and the autocrats of May Tourney the right to host a
charitable William Marshal list at this year’s event. This list will
be open to all weapon styles, and the winner shall be the participant
who holds the most ribbons at the end of the day. A donation of $10 will
grant the participant 4 ribbons and the right to buy additional ribbons
at a cost of $2 each. All gentles, weather an armed combatant or no, are
invited to purchase ribbons for themselves or to give to those they
consider worthy. At the end of the day, the contestant winner with the
most ribbons will be proclaimed the winner. My lovely lady wife Countess
Cailleach has graciously agreed to provide the prize for the list: pair
of hand-made shoes, the style of which will be chosen by the victor.
The proceeds of the tournament will be donated to a Battered
Women’s Shelter in Macon GA under the names Rick and Karen Hatten.
While I know that this donation will only be a pittance when compared to
the work these two have done over the years, I hope that this endeavor
will help serve as an example to all groups of what good we can
accomplish with so little effort.”
